Long Commutes

This is a click-bait title. My commute is approximately 3 feet.

Bed by a window and a messy desk with laptop work from home

This is my actual bedroom office today. Cinnamon toast! Yes, the dinosaur lamp is mine. I bought it for me.

I am a freelance writer, which gives me the freedom to work from wherever I want to. So, my desk in my bedroom, the recliner in the living room, or anywhere else my hotspot works. So 90% of the time my “commute” is make breakfast - open the computer. It takes around 10 minutes to prepare myself for the day.

Today it was not that. I did spend my ten minutes preparing myself: I got dressed, brushed my teeth, made toast, got a drink, and threw the cat out of my bedroom at least three times. I needed to wipe the dust off the desk so I had to find some paper towels. Then I realized I was out of tissues, so I had to find some. Getting myself together turned into the method outlined in “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.”

Then, my roomate needed some help with breakfast, laundry, and getting settled for the day. While I was doing that, Littlest (18) asked me to help her clean her newest piercing. No problem. Mixed up some salt water and found the Q-tips. cleaned the piercing. I finished the breakfast for my roomate.

Next, I went to get some sheets out of the dryer and OMG I had to call Littest for help. The mattress pad had separated into two layers and wrapped itself into a Gordian Knot around the blanket. It took both of us to untangle the mess. We decided that those items should be dried separately so only the mattress pad went back into the dryer.

I finally made it to my bedroom office when Middlest (20) came in to visit. I love visiting with all my children so we talked about Dungeons and Dragons, friends, and our super cute dog Silver. Middlest even took out my trash and brought me a new bag.

Then, I decided to write this blog, and I still haven’t started working.

So today, despite having a 3 foot commute, it took me 2 and 1/2 hours to get to work.

Happy Friday!
